A Passion for the Caribbean & Cricket
Sir Allen Stanford’s passion for the Caribbean is second to none. As a Texan Antiguan, for the past 25 years he has been a part of the Caribbean community and has seen first-hand both the glory days of the regions’ unifying force –West Indies Cricket, and more recently the disappointing performance and declining world status of the region’s cricket teams.
Sir Allen determined that his passion for the Caribbean, his love of cricket and his long-term commitment to give back to this region would be well served by initiating the reinvention of West Indies cricket with the development of the Stanford 20/20 Tournament. The Stanford 20/20 Tournament reignited the West Indies enthusiasm and support for cricket, united the region, generated considerable profit for local businesses and played before a wide international T.V. audience.
Sir Allen has also spearheaded and funded the creation of a Stanford 20/20 Professional Team in Antigua as part of the Stanford 20/20 cricket initiative and as another step toward achieving the ultimate goal of establishing a professional 20/20 cricket league in the West Indies.
