2008 Stanford 20|20 Cricket Tournament

7/4/2007

Following a random drawing process at the Sticky Wicket Restaurant in Antigua, the teams vying for US$1 million in the 2008 Stanford 20/20 Tournament now know which country they will have to prepare to defeat come January.

The drawing was attended by Stanford 20/20 Board Member Ken Allen, QC and 10 of the 14 legends who make up the board. Laverne Francis-Browne of PricewaterhouseCoopers was on hand to oversee the draw and ensure that the integrity of the selection process was maintained.

There were 8 teams seeded based on their performance in the 2006 Stanford 20/20 Tournament, they were Antigua and Barbuda, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Jamaica, Nevis, Grenada and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The other 13 teams were drawn randomly to fill the other spots in the Tournament draw (Teams 9-21).

How the drawing was conducted There were two boxes, one containing the seeded team names and the other containing the unseeded team names. The legends each took turns selecting from the two boxes, beginning with the unseeded teams. As a team name was drawn, it was slotted in on the playing chart corresponding to the order it was drawn. See tournament schedule.

The second match of the 2008 Stanford 20/20 Tournament will be played on Saturday, 26 January and will feature St. Lucia playing Cayman Islands. The first match will be a bye to St. Maarten. All matches will take place at the Stanford Cricket Ground in Antigua and will be televised throughout the region and the world.
