3/25/2008

AVENTURA, Fla. – From actresses to professional athletes, the addition of celebrities partnering with the best LPGA Players at this year’s inaugural Stanford International Pro-Am will make for one of the most exciting and unique golf tournaments of the year. From April 24 -26, the Stanford International Pro-Am, title sponsored by Stanford Financial Group, will partner 112 LPGA Professionals with 112 amateurs, many of them celebrities, in a 54-hole, stroke-play tournament hosted by The Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort and Club in Aventura, Fla.

Eight-time tennis Grand Slam winner Ivan Lendl and professional tennis player James Blake will join the field along with actresses Catherine Bell and Salli Richardson-Whitfield. Miami Dolphin kicker and Co-captain Jay Feely will also be hitting the links along with baseball Hall of Fame third baseman Mike Schmidt. Television news anchor Stone Phillips has committed to play and will join TV personality Carson Daly, supermodel Beverly Johnson and celebrity chef Ming Tsai.

After 36-holes of competition, there will be a cut to the low 70 professionals and the low 20 teams including ties. The winners of the 54-hole Pro-Am portion of the tournament will receive a pair of Audemars Piguet watches, prizes from Tiffany & Co., and a Fairmont trip including airfare provided by tournament sponsor American Airlines. A Waterford perpetual trophy will list the 2008 Pro-Am Champions.

While the Pro-Am division of the tournament will conclude on Saturday, the remaining LPGA Professionals will battle it out on Sunday to see who will take home the first place prize of $300,000 out of the $2 million purse.
